Customers at The Ship, in Saltburn, can now experience the new-look pub and 250-seater beer garden

A popular Saltburn pub has re-launched following an exciting six-figure refurb.

The Ship has finally re-opened its doors to punters following a huge transformation, with major changes introduced to both the interior and the new beer garden. The Saltburn Road site now boasts a 250-seater beer garden, complete with an outdoor bar and fish and chip shop nestled in it, and a new and improved champagne bar.

The Grade II-listed building, which is located just off Saltburn beach and offers customers stunning panoramic views of the Teesside coastline, now has a new-look modern decor, with new soft furnishings and an extended bar and snug area.

All internal rooms have been revamped, including the family room, which contains a large bar area with a beautiful bay window, and the new and improved champagne bar. All of the internal modifications are in keeping with the style and history of the building.

The new beer garden now has comfortable outdoor seating and a heated pergola with festoon lighting, designed so that locals can enjoy the stunning views come rain or shine.

Teesside Live reported earlier this year that Greene King had lodged big makeover plans for the site, including a new fish and chip shop and outdoor bar. Months on and this plan has come to fruition, with hungry punters now being able to grab a bite to eat at the seaside spot or even take away.

Food on offer includes a selection of fish, halloumi, chips, and children’s chicken nuggets and chips. The pub's new menu will also feature both old favourites and new additions. Those with four-legged friends needn't worry either, as they are more than welcome both inside and out of the pub to kick back and relax after a run along the beach.

Before the renovations, the popular pub was previously run by husband and wife Ian and Lisa Burton, who were at the helm for over nine years before moving onto pastures new and handing the venue over to chain Greene King.

To mark the opening, a new drinks menu has been launched featuring an extensive cocktail range, including Turbo Bellini, Midori Sour, Tropicolada, and the non-alcoholic White Peach and Raspberry Cooler. The venue is also adding cask ales from both national and local breweries, and over 10 different no and low alcoholic beers and wines.

David Murphy, General Manager of The Ship said: “We are beyond excited to be reopening the Ship just in time for some August sunshine, and what better way to celebrate our opening than a live music weekend, with some great acts performing.

“All of us at The Ship cannot wait to welcome customers both old and new into our pub, to enjoy our fantastic range of drinks and delicious food.

“Guests are sure to love our new beer garden with beautiful waterfront views, offering the people of Saltburn-by-the-Sea the best fish and chips by the beach experience around.”

There's also plenty of entertainment planned, with a resident DJ spinning the decks in the beer garden throughout the rest of the summer every Friday evening.

The Ship also has a weekly programme of events with a quiz night every Thursday, and live music at the weekend from well-known local DJ David Strangeways, with a kid’s craft fun day and rock ‘n’ roll bingo every Sunday.
